Firstborn celebrates their “holiday” party every year at Luger's, a famous steakhouse in Brooklyn. This is generally not just a reason to eat and be merry, but for all to come up with something special that celebrates all things Firstborn.
For Luger's 2013 (celebrated in March), we created a “disposable” photo app specially the event: that is, an application that allowed users to take a limited number of photos during the day, with very limited preview capabilities, and no editing (or deleting!) possible.
Since Luger's day is an event that takes the whole day (and most of the night), the app unlocked in the morning. Through the day, users were allowed to take a maximum of 36 photos that were automatically uploaded to a server. Once all photos were taken, the application “self-destructed” and became unusable.
The next day, photos were “revealed” in real time in an online gallery, showing up exactly 24 hours after they were taken. This allowed everyone to follow photos of the event in the order it happened (for better or worse).
This application was designed and built by the development team at Firstborn over the span of about a week, and then tested for another week. It was available both for iOS and Android, plus its web counterpart for the reveal gallery. My part was creating the Android application.
A very slightly revised version of the app was later used for Luger's day 2014.

What shops do when they're not working for you
“Firstborn's annual pilgrimage to Peter Luger Steakhouse is notorious, and the shop's young brains found a way to document it all -- without edits -- via an app they pressured everyone into downloading before the big night.”
