Agência Tudo (“Tudo Agency”), from São Paulo, Brazil, is a promotions agency who provides service for the event, promotion and sponsorship industries, such as designing and organizing a new product release or other commemorative events.
Their debut online presence mimicked a desk full of interactive objects. The site's content was accessible by interacting with those objects, many of them stickers that could be pulled out to navigate to new areas.
Despite looking somewhat simple and playful, and despite being used sparingly, this was one of the most complex UI interactions I ever had to create, as it required more than the usual dosage of trigonometry of a standard UI.
This effect shares some similarity with a classic (almost cliché) Flash effect, the famous “page flip”. However, this one was not just coded from scratch, but added a degree of complexity to the whole idea of flipping since we used irregular shapes that could be dragged and detached from any of its sides.
The end result was a playful website that employed many of Flash's coolest features at the time, such as displacement maps for graphic effect and even a little bit of roaming A.I. employed in the ants: they'd continuously walk in and out of a cookie, but could be pushed out by the visitor, only to re-route and return later. This remains one of my favorite features of the whole experience.
